About C&C
C&C stands for cubes and coroplast . A lot of people will go for this option when owning a skinny pig. C&C cages have many benefits and most of the time you will find people using fleece bedding. Fleece bedding has many benefits as well. Instead of buying bag after bag of wood shavings, buy a couple separate yards of fleece, and they can be washed and reused as much as desired. Fleece is more eco-friendly. It is also better for a skinny pigs skin. These types of cages are made up of metal grids and corrugated plastic known as coroplast.
Things To Consider
- Are C&C cages cheaper? Depends on how much your willing to spend. You can make the perfect cage for well under $50 or you can put as much money into it as you want.
- How do you make a cage? There are many websites, Facebook groups and even videos on YouTube that will help guide you in building a C&C cage.
- Here's how to clean fleece bedding, start by picking up any loose hay and droppings on it. Then, shake the bedding outside or over trash to dislodge any debris stuck in the fabric. Next, machine wash the bedding on high heat with detergent and white vinegar. A quarter of a cup of white vinegar is recommended in the wash to help kill germs and bacteria and reduce odor.
- Safe grids are 14" square with 9x9 inner holes (NOT 8x8 or less). The inner holes (gap between wires) should never be larger than 1.5". Young or narrow-headed guinea pigs can get their heads caught, if so.
The best part about a C&C cage is being able to design the cage yourself. It can be a challenge at first but once you get the hang of it, it's well worth the effort! What guinea pig wouldn't want an awesome cage with cuddle sacks, hideaways, and comfy little beds to sleep in. You can find all kinds of wonderful fleece liners on Etsy or even try making your own. Just have fun with it!
